Westmont Goalkeeper Lindsey Smith

2013-11-12T04:13:39-08:00November 12th, 2013|

The Golden State Athletic Conference has announced that Westmont goalkeeper Lindsey Smith has been named the Women’s Soccer Co-Player of the Year. Smith shares the honor with Vanguard forward Jordan Davidson.
“This recognition has been three years in the making,” said Westmont head coach Kristi Kiely of Smith’s award. “I thought she was, if not the best, one of the best keepers in the conference her sophomore year. Last year, she was good, but was hampered by her injury. This year, it was the culmination of everything – her hard work and being injury free.”
This is the third All-GSAC Team selection for Smith who played throughout the 2012 season with a torn ligament in her elbow.
In 2013, playing in the strongest conference for women’s soccer in the NAIA, Smith has allowed just six goals and ranks second in the NAIA with a goals-against average of 0.38. She has tallied seven shutouts and combined with sophomore keeper Lauren Dorr for six shared shutouts.
“Lindsey has been absolutely excellent,” praised Kiely. “In the big games, she is the one who has kept us in the games and given us a chance to be successful on the other end of the field. She has been a leader in the back and has made huge saves. I am thankful that she has been recognized for her talent, because she is one of the best in the country.”

U11 Orange – US Marine Core Reserver Toys for Tots

2013-11-06T22:30:11-08:00November 6th, 2013|

For our Rage leadership project, Noelle Marceno and I chose to support the US Marine Core Reserve Toys for Tots program. The purpose of this charity is to provide toys for under privileged children. The success of this program is dependent on people’s generous donations of new, unwrapped toys to be handed out to kids during the Christmas season. Without this program, many of these underprivileged kids would not have presents for Christmas.

U11 Orange – Toys for Tots

Our goal was to get as many donations as possible. To achieve this, we wrote a letter containing the program details and gave it to all the people we knew. We asked them to donate a toy and told them we would pick it up from their house and would deliver all the toys we collected to the Marine Core reserve center. We collected three huge boxes of toys! This meant we could help brighten the Holiday season for a lot of kids.

Toys for Tots is a fantastic nonprofit organization. It made us feel really good to help out kids who are less fortunate than we are. We are so glad we choose to support Toys for Tots. We hope you decide to support it next year.

The RAGE U14 Hawks flew into Sonoma for the Sonoma Honey Invitational tournament last weekend and walked out with 2nd place trophies!

On the opening day of pool play, The Hawks faced a pair of Sonoma teams in their first test of the tournament.  In game 1, The Hawks got off to a fast start with a fast driving goal from Bridget O’Sullivan.  The defense, anchored by Colleen Eichhorn frustrated the Sonoma Rush attackers and turned away all advances.  The second half became a defensive battle as the Hawks’ Caoilinn Dwyer and Kristen Greene provided plenty of protection for the keeper as the Hawks grabbed a 1-0 victory.  In the second game of the day, Carly Muser posted an early lead for the Hawks with a shot from way outside that found the net.  The Sonoma Huskies stormed back for 2 goals to grab the half time lead.  With time running out in the game, Samantha Nimmo sent a well placed long ball to Carly Muser for the equalizer, and the Hawks ended the game tied.

Day 2 opened with an early match up against the Sonoma Scorpions.  The game opened in a tight defensive battle.  The Hawks keeper, Jacqueline Templeman, made several outstanding stops with Sofia Wreden and Aly Lee anchoring a strong defense to maintain a 0-0 halftime score.  Injured forward, Ashley Frans, saw an opportunity and recommended a offensive adjustment which paid off as Cindy Zhao pushed to ball forward to a waiting Carly Muser and the game winner for a 1-0 finish.  The tight battle earned the Hawks a spot in the Championship game!
The wear of the tournament took its toll on the Hawks as they entered the final game with no subs available, but injured teammates remained on the sidelines cheering loudly.  Injured Captains, Ashley Frans and Meena Alexander, motivated their team before taking the field.  Annecy Rocca got things going for the Hawks with several strong drives up the field.  Kyra Shah kept the ball on the offensive side throughout the game.  Natalie McDaniel cut off numerous attacks to protect her keeper.  In the end, the Hawks fell just short of the championship, but claimed well deserved 2nd place trophies.
After the final whistle, the coaches, Steve Nimmo, Jeff Wreden, and Tom Zhao watched as the Hawks hugged each other and celebrated a successful tournament. The Hawks, with their outstanding team play and support throughout the tournament, earned them the well-deserved 2013 Sonoma Honey Invitational 2nd place finish!

RAGE U-19 Girls- Bronze -FIRST PLACE TROPHY

Rick Hitch Classic in ROSEVILLE, CA
Rage 95 Orange Sweep Roseville tournament in a round-robin tournament this weekend.  Battling against adversity of Senioritis and Homecoming Events, they played the two Saturday games with only enough players to field a team.  Late in the first game Kylie Cardozo outwitted the keeper for a very simple 1 v 1 goal.

Game two, with only 11 players , the day heated up to 90 degrees, Rage kept their cool and taunted the opponent with shot after shot and successfully defended every counter attack of a team who had scored 29 goals, until the opponent allowed a single goal. Ramped up and still on the attack, Sierra Downum dribbled through three defenders, powering off a shot from the right side, which quickly rang out the back of the net with a big Whoosh!. Final 2-0.

Sunday morning game with the strength of 13, we rang in another sweet victory with a 2-1 win, allowing the only goal against for the tournament.  Hats off to our determined defense and Keeper Danielle Dieke who played every minute of all 4 games.  As we approached the final challenge, we took the initiative to clinch the tournament with an early goal by Tori Larsen.  Struggling through the final minutes of our endless weekend, they hung on.  The win would put our point total out of reach for games to be played later that day.  Unreachable, we celebrated Victory and an early departure with ONE BIG TROPHY and medals for all.  CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SUCCESS!
