REC Program Description
REC Program: House (U5-U14) and Traveling House (U16, U19)
The Rec program may adjust age groupings and House / Traveling House delineations based on registration numbers as we approach the beginning of each season.
- Age Groups – Recreational League soccer currently utilizes the following age groups: U5, U6, U7, U8, U9, U10, U12, U14, U16, U19. For age group dates, see the Age Group Chart.
- Team Formation – There are no tryouts for Recreational soccer. U6–U10 teams are formed primarily around the school / residential zones of the coach and players. Usually, there are multiple teams in each school / residential zone, and there are sometimes players from multiple schools on a team. Beginning in U12, player ratings from the previous season and player age within the age group are added considerations in the team formation process in an attempt to create reasonably well balanced teams – a condition that greatly benefits all players.
- Practices – Recreational program practices begin in August. Practices are 60-90 minutes, 1-2 per week, depending on coach availability and player age.
- Games - The 10 game season begins in September and should complete before Thanksgiving. Games are typically played on Saturdays. There are no games on Labor Day weekend.
- Standings -
U5-U9: There are no standings in these age groups. All participants receive Participation Trophies at the end of the season.
U10-14: Standings are kept in these age groups, with 1st and 2nd place trophies and 3rd place medals awarded at the end of the season.
U16-19: These age groups play in local Traveling House leagues and compete with teams outside of Pleasanton Rage within District 3. Any awards for Traveling House are dependent on the league in which a team plays.
Age Group Coordinators – The AGC is a member’s main contact for questions pertaining to a specific age group. They also assist in recruiting coaches and in team formation. The list of AGCs will be posted on our website. Visit the Volunteer Procedure page for information on how to become an Age Group Coordinator, or for other club volunteer opportunities.
Player Registration – To play in the Recreational league, registration must be completed for each player. No further action is necessary to be placed on a Recreational team. To start the registration process, please visit the Registration page.
Player Requests – Because of the size of the Recreational program Pleasanton Rage is unable to accommodate any coach, team, or practice schedule request. We will try to accommodate carpool requests as needed. The only way to guarantee placement of a player on a specific team is for the parent / guardian to be part of the coaching staff (each team can have up to one head coach and two assistant coaches).
Coach Registration – All Recreational head and assistant coaches must complete Coach Registration, in addition to completing the background check.
Coach Background Checks – All head coaches and assistant coaches must complete a LIVE SCAN fingerprint background check for Pleasanton Rage before they are able to meet with their team on or off the field.
Coach Training – Coaching resources and training classes are available. Visit the Coach’s Corner for more information. Every Pleasanton Rage head coach also receives a Coach’s Manual with information specific to their age group, as well as other free educational resources.
Flight Program – The Rage Flight program is available to Recreational players within the U10-14 age groups. Visit the Flight page for a full program description or visit the Registration page to register a player for Rage Flight.
